Amy A . Abbott, PhD, RN

Professor


Dr. Amy A. Abbott is a Professor in the College of Nursing at Creighton University. Her research focuses on patient safety (e.g., care transitions, health information technology, interprofessional education) and family-centered diabetes care particularly in rural communities. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and an MS in Adult Health and Cardiac Nursing from Creighton University. Her recent projects include exploring telehealth interventions for Type 1 diabetes management and community-based participatory research on occupation-based coaching which was externally funded. Dr. Abbott has presented internationally and has published in leading nursing journals in these areas. She is a member of two esteemed honor socieies, Alpha SIgma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She has also received notable honors including Nebraska’s Outstanding Nurse Educator and most recently, was inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of Research in the National Academies of Practice in Nursing. Through her research, Dr. Abbott aims to bridge gaps in healthcare access and improve outcomes for underserved populations including those with diabetes.
