Institute for Population Health

The Institute for Population Health (IPH) works to improve health and wellbeing in the communities we serve by integrating population health efforts across the University, health systems and community partners. Through education, research, service and advocacy, IPH advances health equity and expands access to high-value care. This collaborative, holistic approach considers the full range of influences on health, including mental, behavioral and physical health, medical care, and the social and environmental factors that shape wellbeing.

What is Population Health?

As defined by Kindig and Stoddart, population health is, “Health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of such outcomes within the group.” It is also an approach to care that examines the intersecting factors that influence health. At the Institute, we focus on using the following strategic tools for population health interventions: education and workforce development, clinical transformation, research and evaluation, community engagement, and policy and advocacy.
