  • Most clubs have tryouts to be part of the traveling roster. Some clubs will allow social members who participate in local activities with the team. Those interested should contact the current club president for more information.

Who coaches the club teams?

  • Traditional club teams are often coached by a student or staff volunteer. Premier club teams are coached by professional staff.

What is the time commitment to join a club team?

  • Clubs recognize that students are students first. Students can expect to spend around six hours per week with their team, but this varies from club to club.

How long does a season last?

  • The length of the season and frequency of competitions depend on the sport. Upcoming competition dates can be found by searching for the team’s page in CUInvolved, or by contacting the club president.

How often do teams practice?

  • Teams typically practice between 2-4 times per week, but this varies from club to club. Contact the club president for more information.

Where and when do the teams travel?

  • Travel is dependent on the club and its schedule. Common travel locations include Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois and Wisconsin. Some clubs will travel farther based on post-season eligibility. Clubs may travel as far as Florida or California. Upcoming competition dates can be found by searching for the team’s page in CUInvolved, or by contacting the club president.

Do I need to move in early for the club teams or stay over the summer for training?

  • Clubs are not permitted to move in early or stay over the summer for club-related activities.

Do I need to buy my own equipment?

  • Yes, athletes need to provide their own equipment.

Are there fees or costs associated with joining the team?

  • Most sport clubs have dues. Specific amounts can be found by contacting club presidents.

Can I start a new club? What resources are provided to students interested in starting a club?

  • Yes! Many new clubs are created every year. If there is a club team that you would like to initiate, professional staff will guide you through the process.

How are club sports different than intramural sports?

  • Club sports provide a higher level of competition than intramural sports. Club sports travel locally, regionally and nationally to compete.

How are premier club sports different from traditional club sports?

  • Our premier-level teams are our most competitive teams. They play competitively at local, regional and national levels, travel for tournaments and compete against other universities. Student-athletes in premier-level club sports have a coach who manages training, scheduling and more, while the other clubs are led by a president, who is also a player. Because of the high level of competition, team membership for premier clubs is recruitment-based.

  • No. Club sports participants have access to the two athletic facilities open to all students. Access to the NCAA Division I teams’ facilities and services is not provided.

Where can I keep my equipment?

  • Limited storage space is available in the recreational facilities. Most clubs rent external storage facilities in Omaha through their dues.

Do other students watch club games?
