While you’ll gain much from your Creighton experience, you’ll ultimately give back even more. Community engagement is a big part of life on campus. In fact, our students, faculty, staff and alumni are known for volunteering with our community partners on initiatives that serve those in need—and help create a more just world. We also have a significant impact on our local economy, which is another way we contribute to the vitality of Omaha, the state of Nebraska, and the Midwest region as a whole. Additionally, as a Jesuit university, we do work through our global initiative to improve communities around the world.

Milton R. Abrahams Legal Clinic

The Milton R. Abrahams Legal Clinic operates as a small law firm that offers free legal services related to civil matters for low-income residents of Douglas County, Nebraska. The clinic is run by students under the supervision of licensed attorneys.

Bankruptcy Clinic

The Creighton School of Law’s Bankruptcy Legal Clinic helps Douglas County residents with significant debt and limited income gain a fresh start through bankruptcy. The clinic is run by students under the supervision of licensed attorneys.

Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic

The Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic provides free legal services for youth ages 11-19 with open cases in the Separate Juvenile Court of Douglas County.  The clinic is run by students under the supervision of licensed attorneys.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

Through the official IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, Heider College of Business students use their accounting skills and expertise to assist qualifying families in our community file their taxes for free every spring.

Institute for Population Health

The Institute for Population Health (IPH) is committed to improving equitable health outcomes for all people in the communities we serve. We do this through an innovative, collaborative and holistic approach that looks at all aspects of health, including mental, behavioral and physical health, medical care, and social and environmental influences.

Magis Clinic

The Magis Clinic and its partners provide free healthcare, as well as referrals to existing community services. It is the first free medical clinic in Omaha open on Saturdays that treats unhoused men, women, children and the medically uninsured.

School of Dentistry Outreach

Creighton School of Dentistry students, faculty and staff work together to provide oral and dental healthcare and education in the Omaha area. Programs include Healthy Smiles, which provides approximately 5,000 free dental visits for low-income elementary school children each year.

Global Engagement Office

The Global Engagement Office promotes global learning to enhance Creighton’s capacity to serve in solidarity with neighbors and nations. The office’s efforts include support for international students, as well as academic and service opportunities around the world.

John P. Schlegel, SJ, Center for Service and Justice

The John P. Schlegel Center for Service and Justice (SCSJ) engages students in community service, reflection and action. This is done to promote justice and sustainability as an integral part of students’ Jesuit, Catholic education, while also forming the Ignatian leaders of tomorrow.

Creighton at Highlander

Creighton is a tenant in the Highlander Accelerator, a community enrichment center that’s part of a revitalization project in the Highlander community. Creighton’s space is an interprofessional community of practice aimed at culturally responsive engagement and true partnership.

Institute for Latin American Concern (ILAC)

For more than 50 years, Creighton has partnered with Misión ILAC in the Dominican Republic to provide immersive, service-based learning experiences. Students across disciplines gain a global perspective while serving alongside local communities.
