Omar S. Akbik

Assistant Professor


Omar Akbik, MD was born and raised in Memphis, TN. He completed his undergraduate and master’s degree at Northwestern University.  He returned to Memphis to earn his medical degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  Moving to Albuquerque after medical school, he completed seven years of neurosurgical residency at the University of New Mexico Hospital, which was and remains the only Level 1 trauma center for the state and tertiary referral center for the state. After residency, Akbik completed a 1-year fellowship in adult deformity and complex spine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  Akbik joined as an assistant professor at Creighton University of School of Medicine in 2021. His interests include adult spinal surgery including deformity and minimally invasive techniques as well as traumatic spine injuries.  He also has an interest in traumatic brain injuries and brain tumors including endoscopic approaches to pituitary tumors.
