Simon James Appleford, BA, PhD

Associate Professor

I am an Associate Professor of History at Creighton University and Director of Creighton’s Digital Humanities Initiative. My research focuses on the intersections of digital humanities, visual culture, and 19th- and 20th-century U.S. cultural and intellectual history. I have published two books: Drawing Liberalism: Herblock\'s Political Cartoons in Postwar America and Digital Futures of Graduate Study in the Humanities. I am also leading a collaboration between Creighton, the Joslyn Art Museum, and Nebraska Indian Community College to digitize materials related to an 1832–1834 expedition led by the German Prince Maximilian of Wied-Neuwied into the American Midwest.
