Instructor

Dr. Bodendorfer is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the surgical and non-surgical care of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. He has been a team physician for professional, collegiate and high school athletic teams. He strives to provide individualized care for each patient to decrease pain and improve function. He has been married to his wife Molly, who is an orthodontist, since 2016 and they have a girl, boy, and a rescue dog. They enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, Peloton, weightlifting, and exploring Omaha.

Dr. Bodendorfer was selected for advanced training as a Fellow in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the internationally recognized Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush / Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. At Rush, he gained experience as an assistant team physician for professional teams (Chicago White Sox, Bulls and Fire) and NCAA Division I teams (DePaul University). Prior to fellowship, he completed residency at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and was honored to be selected as the Academic Chief Resident. In Washington, DC he worked alongside the team physicians for the Washington Commanders, Nationals and Capitals. During medical school at The University of Missouri School of Medicine in Columbia, MO, he was elected to the AOA Honor Medical Society as a top member of his graduating class. He is originally from Springfield, Missouri, where he received his undergraduate education at Drury University, graduating Summa cum Laude with honors in Biology and Chemistry (minors in Business Administration and Global Studies).

Throughout his training, he worked alongside top surgeons who have advanced the field of orthopaedic surgery by creating and innovating modern techniques and implants in an effort to improve patients’ outcomes after injuries. He has advanced the field of orthopaedic surgery by publishing over 80 manuscripts and book chapters, having his work presented regionally, nationally and internationally over 120 times, and he works as a member of the Editorial Board for Arthroscopy and a consultant journal reviewer for several prominent peer-reviewed journals, including AJSM, BJSM, Cartilage, CORR, JAAOS, JOR, JSES and Sports Health.

He cares for adults and teenagers, whether they are hoping to return to elite competition, leisurely activities, or simply hoping to have less pain and better function. When possible, he strives to treat patients without surgery. This can involve anti-inflammatories, bracing, stretching and home exercises, therapy and injections (cortisone, hyaluronic acid or “gel shots”, and other biologic solutions such as platelet rich plasma/PRP or bone marrow aspirate concentrate/BMAC). When these are less ideal, he performs open and arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder (rotator cuff repair, labral repair, coracoid transfer or Latarjet procedure, biceps tenodesis, distal clavicle excision, acromioclavicular or AC joint reconstruction, shoulder arthroplasty or replacement), elbow (UCL repair or reconstruction/Tommy John surgery, tennis elbow surgery and elbow arthroscopy), hip (hip arthroscopy, labral repair, and capsular repair or plication) and knee (meniscectomy, meniscal repair, meniscal transplant, repair or reconstruction of the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL, cartilage preservation and transplant, MACI, knee osteotomies such as high tibial osteotomy/HTO and distal femoral osteotomy/DFO), tendon repairs (biceps, triceps, quadriceps, patellar, hamstring and gluteal or hip abductor), and fracture care (proximal humerus, hip, femur, tibial plateau, tibial shaft and ankle fracture repair or open reduction internal fixation/ORIF).
