Yaxiang Song, PhD

Assistant Professor

Dr. Yaxiang Song is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Heider College of Business at Creighton University. Her primary research interests are in applied microeconomics, health economics, and labor economics. She has a broad interest in the Chinese economy, particularly in how public policies and structural changes affect health, education, and labor market outcomes. Her work has been published in journals such as the China Economic Review, Economics of Education Review, and Economic Analysis and Policy. Her ongoing projects examine the effects of public health insurance expansion in China, the impact of COVID-19 policies on children’s mental health, and the relationship between unemployment anxiety and mental health. Dr. Song has presented her research at major conferences, including the Allied Social Science Associations (ASSA) Annual Meeting, the American Society of Health Economists Conference, and the Midwest Economics Association Annual Meeting.

At Creighton, Dr. Song teaches Introductory Microeconomics, Econometrics, and Health Economics. She is actively involved in student mentoring and research, serving as a faculty advisor for undergraduate research fellows through the Menard Family Center for Economic Inquiry. In recognition of her commitment to undergraduate students, she received the IGGY Award in 2024.

Dr. Song earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Kentucky, an M.A. in Economics from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China, and a B.A. in Economics from Chongqing Technology and Business University.
