"This Shining World" opens the year in October at the Salvation Army Kroc Center. Its subject is light as the natural world defines it: spring rain, the cold fire of a constellation, a wind driving across the Argentine plain, and the sun that Robert Louis Stevenson's child finds impossible to escape. That we begin the season in a building constructed to serve its neighborhood, rather than on our own campus, reflects a conviction at the center of Jesuit education -- that formation is directed outward, toward others.
