Creighton University has been named a 2024-2025 Chapter of the Year by Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society. This prestigious recognition celebrates Creighton’s enduring commitment to the Jesuit values of scholarship, loyalty and service. As the second-oldest chapter in the society, founded in 1921, Creighton has consistently exemplified the ideals of Jesuit education through its rigorous academic standards, vibrant campus engagement and dedication to community service.

Angela Patterson, OTD, associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy and director of the Office of Faculty and Staff Development in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, serves as the chapter adviser.

The Chapter of the Year award highlights Creighton’s campus engagement, meaningful programming, outstanding leadership and service initiatives that have enriched both the campus and the broader Omaha community.

“Alpha Sigma Nu represents the highest ideals of Jesuit education, and this recognition affirms the integration of those values into the life of our University,” said Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD. “I am grateful for the leadership of Dr. Patterson as the chapter adviser, and I am proud of the legacy of students, faculty, staff and alumni who not only have had a role in the chapter’s success but have embodied our Jesuit principles in such meaningful and transformative ways.”

The Alpha Sigma Nu students at Creighton consistently demonstrate leadership in various capacities across campus. As representatives of the top 5% of undergraduate and graduate students who have completed at least half of their credits, the members deeply understand the importance of being men and women for and with others for the greater glory of God. The lifelong membership in Alpha Sigma Nu means members are committed to a lifetime pursuit of intellectual development, deepening Ignatian spirituality, service to others and the core principles of Jesuit education.

“Creighton has a special chapter that goes above and beyond the Alpha Sigma Nu tenets of scholarship, loyalty and service,” said Clara Dwyer, executive director of Alpha Sigma Nu. “From the annual induction ceremony to the ongoing growth of the vibrant community that includes alumni members, the AΣN community of scholar leaders makes the chapter a model for Jesuit institutions globally. We are proud to honor their legacy and continued excellence with this award.”

Creighton's Alpha Sigma Nu induction ceremony is held annually in February. Visit the Creighton University Alpha Sigma Nu website to learn more about past inductees and the Creighton AΣN alumni club activities.
