Creighton names three to join Board of Trustees

On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Creighton President the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, SJ, PhD, shared the names of three individuals selected to join the University’s Board of Trustees. The announcement was made on the Creighton University Health Sciences Campus in Phoenix.

Joining the Board are the Rev. Dominic Chai, SJ, PhD, who serves as an associate professor of management and associate dean for strategy and mission at Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration; John Levy, JD, president of the William and Ruth Scott Family Foundation; and Rachel Werner, chief executive officer of Cornerstone Legacy, LLC.

The new trustees join three alumni who were previously added to the Board this summer: Alex Calfo, JD’90; Karen Dolan Rauenhorst, BSN’75; and Doug Wells, BSBA’76.

“As Creighton approaches its 150th year of providing Jesuit, Catholic higher education to students from around the world, it is an honor to welcome Fr. Chai, Mr. Levy, and Mrs. Werner to the Board of Trustees,” Fr. Hendrickson said. “In bringing a myriad of backgrounds, professions, and viewpoints, these accomplished individuals can provide perspectives and insights that will prepare our University for the future.”

Meet the New Trustees

Dominic Chai

Rev. Dominic Chai, SJ, PhD

The Rev. Dominic Chai, SJ, PhD, is associate professor of management and associate dean for strategy and mission at Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, a doctorate from the London School of Economics, and a Licentiate in Sacred Theology from Boston College. Fr. Chai has held faculty positions at Manchester Business School, Seoul National University, and the University of London, teaching strategic management and business ethics. He served as a senior executive at Hyundai Development Company in Korea, focusing on global strategy and new ventures. During the recent pandemic, he was missioned to the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, co-coordinating the Vatican COVID-19 Commission’s Economy Taskforce. He collaborates with the International Association of Jesuit Business Schools and is a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Business Research. His research centers on integrating Catholic Social Thought into economic discourse

John Levy

John Levy, JD

John Levy is president of the William and Ruth Scott Family Foundation, based in Omaha, where he has worked since 2015. Previously, he was the executive director for the Heart Ministry Center, a social service agency, and an attorney at two different law firms. Levy, currently a member of the Rabble Mill Board of Directors and a governor-appointed Trustee for the Sixpence Early Learning Fund, has served as a trustee or board director for more than 15 organizations. He is an active community volunteer, coaching a refugee girls’ soccer team and mentoring at-risk youth with four different nonprofits. Levy earned his bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Latin American Studies and Anthropology from the University of Kansas; his master’s degree in history from the University of Nebraska at Omaha; his juris doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law; and was a fellow within the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In his free time, John and his spouse, Bethany, raise three boys aged 15, 13, and 10.

Rachel Werner

Rachel Werner

Rachel Werner, wife of Werner Enterprises founder CL Werner, is the chief executive officer of Cornerstone Legacy, LLC. Rachel is a Colorado native. She enjoyed a career as an estimator and project manager for a leading civil engineer company. Her broad experience in project management served as a perfect prelude to her leadership of the CL Werner Foundation, where she has been instrumental in overseeing its successful charitable endeavors. Rachel has served as a Director of the CL Werner Foundation since its formation in 2008 and as President since 2011. Rachel is honored to carry out the Foundation’s mission as well as educate future generations on the importance of strengthening their philanthropic values. In 2023, Rachel joined the Board of Omaha Performing Arts, where she supports their pursuit to bring arts, entertainment and education to the Omaha metro area community. Walking side-by-side, the Werners have impacted countless lives through their generosity and unwavering commitment to philanthropy. They particularly seek to enhance the lives of those in need of a helping hand to thrive in their various paths of life.
