You might know about the successful seasons the Creighton volleyball and basketball teams had last year. You may not have known that throughout their seasons, the teams partnered with the IPH to raise awareness about population health and make a difference in the community by addressing factors that lead to disparities in health.

The Heider Foundation generously provided funding to support season-long programs, one for volleyball and one for basketball, where during every home game, each Creighton “ace” served or 3-pointer made earned a cash donation, culminating in a $5,000 donation to No More Empty Pots, a community-based organization meeting food security needs locally, and soon a $6,000 donation to the Heart Ministry Center. Additionally, Creighton volleyball fans turned out big to support a two-day food drive for the Food Bank for the Heartland in November, resulting in the donation of 700 pounds of food just in time for the holidays. Women’s basketball fans also contributed to a one-day food drive in March, resulting in the donation of about another 350 pounds of food.

Additionally, the volleyball and basketball teams planned to spend some off-season time volunteering in the community, working to eliminate food insecurity in Omaha.
