The John P. Fahey Career Center, as a part of the Division of Student Success, is committed to assisting students and alumni in exploring purpose and opportunities, developing career-related skills, and implementing career goals that reflect their unique roles in the world of work and their commitment to a life of service to others.
The Career Center believes that a student's career encompasses any direction they are interested in pursuing actively throughout their education and post-graduation, whether full-time volunteer, government and non-profit, business, academia, further education, or anything in between.
Students will have the ability to:
The Career Center engages students in several ways to meet these goals.
The John P. Fahey Career Center advising staff presents across campus on various topics. The staff presents to classes, residence hall floors, student organizations, and other departments for staff training. If interested, the Career Center can also aid in creating an employer or alumni panel. Below are a few of the topics presented on in the past:
If you would like to request a presentation or program, please fill out the Presentation Request form. A Career Center staff member will follow up in 1-3 business days to solidify details. Please contact us at careercenter@creighton.edu or 402.280.2722 if you have not heard back from us in 3 days.
If a faculty or staff member is interested in a Strengths presentation for their class, team, or organization, please use the Strengths Presentation Request Form on CU Involved. The SLIC office will coordinate scheduling and follow up with the coaches network as needed to cover the request.
Students can meet with a Career Advisor to discuss anything from deciding on a major or career of interest to applying for a job or graduate school. Advisors can help students discover what they desire to do and assist in accomplishing their goals.
Faculty and staff can refer students to set up an appointment via Handshake, by calling 402.280.2722 or encourage students to come in during walk-in hours (Monday-Friday, 1:30PM-4:30PM during the academic year).
The Career Center hosts a variety of events each year that aid students in their professional and personal development. Opportunities include etiquette dinners, career and graduate school fairs, networking events, employer office hours, and much more. Check out the calendar for upcoming events.
Many of the events are open to faculty and staff. Furthermore, the Career Center enjoys partnering with departments and the campus community when planning new or updating current events.
Handshake is Creighton University's online career management system that offers many benefits: a large national network of employers and job/internship listings, mobile friendly interface, and personalized experience for students and employers to connect for opportunities. Handshake is where students schedule career advising appointments; search and apply for jobs and internships; schedule on-campus interviews; access Creighton Career Fairs; and RSVP for career events.
The Career Center provides resources no matter where a student is at in their career development, beginning with career assessments and advising to help students explore options, along with resources to connect students with alumni and other professionals to learn more about career paths. If they are in the process of applying for internships or jobs, there are resources for the search, application, and interview processes. If a student's future plans involve graduate or professional school, there are many resources for the application process and trained counselors to work through the process and edits with them.
