Occupational Therapy Gerontology Fellowship
Enhancing Care for Older Adults
Grow your understanding of gerontology care and expand your ability to serve the geriatric community.
In this fellowship, you’ll participate in interprofessional practice opportunities, skilled nursing, inpatient and outpatient geriatric practice settings. You will also be engaged in administrative/leadership experiences in skilled nursing.
The fellow will also participate in academic teaching in the courses Occupational Therapy with Older Adults and Occupational Therapy in Mental Health. They will also provide supervision to a Level I fieldwork student during the fellowship program.
Clinic time may vary and can include Saturday and/or evening hours. Reliable transportation is required to travel between facilities.
Program Highlights
- Focus on geriatric practice with our clinical partners:
- Old Mill Rehabilitation, a local skilled nursing facility that meets the various rehabilitative needs of older adults
- CHI Immanuel Heritage Center, an inpatient program that cares for the behavioral health needs of older adults
- CHI Lasting Hope Recovery Center, an outpatient program that addresses the psychiatric needs of older adults
- Clinical fellowship settings: SNF, inpatient and outpatient behavioral health
- Academic fellowship setting: university campus setting for lecture and laboratory experiences, community laboratory experience and online teaching
- Interprofessional learning opportunities: case studies, curricular topics, interprofessional practice opportunities
- Engage in a scholarly research project during the fellowship
- Participate in teaching specialty content in lecture and lab activities with entry-level doctorate students
- Mentoring by highly motivated and experienced geriatric practitioners
- Participate in service activities for the good of the community
- Prepare for your Gerontology Board Certification through a focused fellowship program

Application Criteria
- Graduates from accredited occupational therapy doctorate programs preferred. We will consider applicants from accredited occupational therapy master’s programs.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in clinical and academic settings.
- Recommend completion of a Level II Fieldwork, Doctoral Capstone Experience or practice experience in the focused area of practice.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and teamwork abilities to work with a variety of individuals, including family members, clients, community members and other professionals.

- Applications are reviewed by a penel of fellowship faculty. Qualified candidates will be invited for an on-site interview. Fellowship programs begin on August 1.
